- Do the math with labor. A machine that shoots out parts that need cleanup isn't a machine. It's a colleague you have to pay forever.
- Don't buy a production machine for production you don't have. The Masterline quote was exciting in theory. It would have been a mistake in practice.
- Budget for the whole system. Ventilation, exhaust, chiller, air, tooling, training, maintenance. If you ignore these, the sticker price is a lie.
Bottom line
So, what kind of laser is Glowforge? For us, it's the answer to a more useful question: what kind of tool earns its keep without turning my shop into a training center or a cleanup crew?
Is the Glowforge Aura laser the most powerful machine in the world? No. Is it the cheapest? No. But the best purchase isn't the one that impresses your peers. It's the one that makes your customers say, 'Wow.' The Aura did that. That's a line item worth paying for.
